About this board game
AuZtralia is an adventure and exploration game for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Set in an alternate-reality 1930s, it follows adventurers who seek to explore and settle Australia’s outback after a devastating war.
The northern hemisphere has been poisoned, and starvation is widespread. In this new land, players must build a port, construct railways, mine resources, and farm for food while preparing for a far greater danger: the surviving Old Ones and their loyal human armies.
Every action costs time, one of AuZtralia’s most valuable resources. Careful planning is essential, because the Old Ones will eventually awaken and become an active player, revealing themselves and moving across the land with potentially devastating consequences.
- Explore and settle the Australian outback
- Build ports and railways
- Mine and farm to develop your resources
- Recruit Personalities with useful skills and resources
- Deploy military units to locate, fight, and defend against the Old Ones
Military units provide the hardware needed to confront the nightmarish beings, while Personalities can bring additional skills and resources to your efforts. The most dangerous Old Ones may require players to cooperate if humanity is to survive.
By default, the game is semi-cooperative: one player can win, but everyone loses if the Old Ones prevail. A fully cooperative variant is also included in the rulebook, offering another way to face the awakening together.
Inspired by Martin Wallace’s A Study in Emerald, AuZtralia combines exploration, development, resource management, and supernatural conflict in a race to prepare before darkness returns to the outback.
