About this board game
Witness is a four-player deduction game with a 15-minute play time, set in the world of Blake and Mortimer, the Belgian comic series created by writer and artist Edgar P. Jacobs.
Across 64 cases, you and the other players work to solve mysteries and crimes by sharing information—but your communication is deliberately restricted. Each player represents one of four characters and has access to personal information found only in their own casebook.
Every case begins with an explanatory scene, an image, or both. Someone reads or shows this introduction to the group, and the players then determine who shares information first and in which direction. Two players whisper to one another at the same time, passing along what they know.
- Play strictly with four players.
- Use character-specific information from personal casebooks.
- Share clues through several rounds of restricted communication.
- Complete three individual questions at the end of each case.
The information relay continues for two more rounds. In one example, player B passes both their own information and what player A told them to player C, while player D speaks with player A. This intentionally inefficient process makes every whispered detail important.
After the final round, players read the case’s conclusion, which may provide further information or another visual. Each player then answers three questions individually. The group earns one point for every correct answer, producing a final score from 0 to 12.
With its fixed four-player format, compact play time, and unusual communication system, Witness turns collaborative crime-solving into a careful test of memory, listening, and information sharing.
