About this expansion

Runebound: The Island of Dread is a full-size expansion for Runebound: Second Edition that supports 2–6 players and plays in about 120 minutes. It introduces a new island environment where heroes explore by land and sea while piecing together the lost map to the fabled Island of Dread.

This big box expansion replaces elements of the original game, including its map and playable characters, to create a new and different Runebound experience. A gorgeous new board overlay transforms the game environment and provides the setting for a fresh fantasy adventure.

The expansion includes 110 new cards, adding new characters, encounters, challenges, events, and equipment. These new elements give heroes more discoveries and dangers to face as they travel across the scattered islands and search for the mysterious destination.

  • A new board overlay featuring an uncharted island setting
  • 110 new cards, including characters, encounters, challenges, events, and equipment
  • New rules for hiring ships and traveling among scattered islands
  • Replacement map and playable characters for a different game experience

Ships are central to the journey, but not all vessels are equally dependable. Players get what they pay for: the inexpensive Vulgar Princess and her crew may seize a hero’s loot and dump them overboard, adding a memorable risk to sea travel.

To play Runebound: The Island of Dread, you must own the Runebound basic game. Released in 2005, it expands Runebound: Second Edition with a new setting, new content, and a seafaring quest to find the Island of Dread and win the game.
