Steam Barons

About this expansion

Steam Barons is the first expansion for Mayfair’s Steam, supporting 2–6 players with an approximate play time of 120 minutes.

The expansion adds two new maps to the Steam experience. One covers the eastern United States along with parts of Canada, while the other focuses on northern England. When using Steam’s base or standard rules, these maps are suitable for five or six players.

Steam Barons also introduces an alternative ruleset built around a stock-market system. With these rules, players can buy and sell shares in railway companies, giving the maps a different way to be played. The Steam Barons rules make both maps playable with anywhere from two to six players.

• 144 wooden train pieces and 38 additional tiles

The 144 wooden train pieces are required when using the Steam Barons version, and they can also be used with the base and standard games. The additional 38 tiles help avoid shortages when playing on the larger maps.

For players who enjoy expanding Steam with new settings and an alternative economic system, Steam Barons offers a substantial addition. Its stock-market element is similar to the approach found in Railways of England and Wales.
