About this expansion
Combat Commander: Battle Pack #4 – New Guinea is a two-player collection of fourteen scenarios, each designed for approximately 180 minutes of play, covering battles in New Guinea from January 1942 through July 1944.
This themed Battle Pack follows major phases of the campaign through varied historical situations. Australian, Papuan, US, and Japanese forces clash across coastal jungle, mountain ridges, airstrips, river crossings, villages, and dangerous swamp forest.
The pack includes fourteen cardstock scenarios and six new maps depicting locations such as the base of Mt Vulcan near Rabaul, Oivi, Eora Creek, the Soputa-Sanananda Road, Wau, and the Driniumor River near the Afua Trail.
- M1–M6: Early actions including a Japanese barge landing at Rabaul, fighting at Oivi and Milne Bay, contested crossings in the Stanleys, and a desperate banzai action at Gorari.
- M7–M10: Battles around the Soputa-Sanananda Road, Buna, and Wau, including M3 tanks, active airstrip operations, and Japanese Patrol Dogs.
- M11–M14: Later fighting around Salamua, Finschhafen, and the Driniumor River, including night attacks and an attempted encirclement of US Cavalry.
Scenario-specific rules introduce unusual situations and local conditions, including Air Supply, Barge Landing, Canebreak, Coastal Jungle, Emplaced M3 Tanks, Joint Allied Operations, Patrol Dogs, Swamp Holes, and Swamp Forest. These rules are included as needed for each scenario without requiring an additional rule booklet.
Combat Commander: Battle Pack #4 – New Guinea is not a complete game and requires Combat Commander: Pacific to play. It was designed by John Foley and developed by Kai Jensen.
