1655: Habemus Papam is a card game for 3–4 players that recreates the intrigue of the 1655 papal conclave in about 30 minutes. Players take on the roles of Preferiti, the leading candidates to become the next pope.

Rome is filled with suspense after the death of Pope Innocent X. As cardinals arrive at the center of religious power, each player seeks to gain as many votes as possible through bribery, beguilement, and tactical calculation.

The election is a contest of influence and political skill. Players work toward securing the votes that money can buy while demonstrating mastery on the political stage. When the conclave ends, the player with the most votes is elected and proclaimed the new pope.

With its focus on rivalry, persuasion, and papal intrigue, 1655: Habemus Papam offers a compact setting for a dramatic election. The game’s theme culminates in the appearance of white smoke and the announcement: “Habemus papam!”
