About this board game

20 Strong is a solo deck-based game for one player, designed to take about 40 minutes. It combines dice rolling, card-driven challenges, and strategic resource management in a compact game system.

Each game begins with a shuffled deck of cards, and every card presents a unique challenge. You might face an enemy, encounter a special scenario, or attempt a requirement such as a lockpicking challenge. To overcome these obstacles, roll from a set of 17 dice with different odds of scoring a hit, alongside three adjustable stat dice.

Successes let you complete a challenge and claim its rewards. If you fail, you take damage and continue to the next card—unless your HP reaches zero, which ends the game. Survive the entire deck and you will face one of its final bosses, seeking enough hits to secure victory.

  • HP tracks your health and determines whether you remain in the game.
  • Strategy controls how many rerolls and items you have available.
  • Recovery determines how many dice return to your pool after a challenge.

Dice management is central to every decision. Rolling more dice than your Recovery allows exhausts those dice, reducing your pool for later challenges. This creates a constant balance between spending enough power to succeed now and preserving resources for what comes next.

20 Strong launches with decks set in the worlds of Too Many Bones and Hoplomachus: Victorum, alongside the space-faring Solar Sentinels universe. Each deck uses the shared core rules while offering its own mechanics, and additional decks are planned. The result is a tense solo experience built around pressing your luck, adapting to changing challenges, and making every roll count.
