About this expansion

A Game of Thrones: A Storm of Swords Expansion is a 3–4 player expansion for A Game of Thrones: The Board Game, with games lasting about 180 minutes.

Its centerpiece is a new variant game played on a new map, where Houses Stark, Lannister, Greyjoy, and Baratheon compete for control of King’s Landing and the Riverlands. The new claim-based concept challenges players to pursue control of Westeros through both military strength and political influence.

The variant introduces neutral houses that can be swayed to support your cause. House Arryn, House Frey, House Tyrell, and various brigands, mercenaries, and broken men all become part of the struggle for power.

  • Leader rules: Robb Stark, Jaime Lannister, and other leaders take the field directly, with two leaders for every house, including Martell.
  • New cards: Use powerful tactics cards, alternate Westeros decks, and new House cards in both the variant and classic games.
  • Prisoners and hostages: Leaders introduce the ability to take hostages and execute prisoners.
  • Wildling cards: A new deck makes every Wildling assault a unique event.

These additions can be used in both the new variant and classic games, providing new rules and components for battles across Westeros. The expansion requires the main A Game of Thrones Board Game to play.

A Storm of Swords is entirely compatible with the A Clash of Kings expansion, although that expansion is not required. Released in 2006, it brings new leaders, political claims, neutral forces, and unpredictable events to the conflict.
