About this board game

¡Adiós Calavera! is a tactical race for two players that takes about 30 minutes, pitting the living against the dead in a contest across a roughly 9×9 board.

During the Day of the Dead, the souls of the deceased return to celebrate with their loved ones. Before the living and dead separate again, they make a wager: whichever group reaches its own world first earns say over the other for a year.

Each player controls eight pieces. The opposing groups begin along edges of the board that meet at a right angle, rather than directly opposite one another. The race ends when one player gets all eight of their pieces off the opposing side of the board.

On a turn, move one piece using movement points determined by the number of pieces on the line standing orthogonally to its main direction toward the goal. The count includes both players’ pieces and the piece being moved, making the position of every piece important.

  • Two-player tactical race: control either the living or the dead.
  • Position-based movement: crowded lines can determine how far a piece travels.
  • Special abilities: some pieces can move through obstacles, switch places with other pieces, or move farther.

With its unusual angled setup and movement tied to the evolving board position, ¡Adiós Calavera! creates a race in which every move can affect both your progress and your opponent’s options.
