About this board game

An Attrition of Souls is a two-player First World War wargame with an approximate 90-minute play time, placing you in command of one of two colossal military blocs.

Armies are marching across a Europe engulfed by conflict, from the trenches of Flanders to the steppes of Russia. Your objective is clear: plan carefully, use your available resources effectively, and lead your alliance toward victory in a brutal struggle from which only one side can emerge victorious.

This is a light, fast-paced wargame built around a distinctive tile-placement system. Each turn, you randomly draw tiles from a pouch according to your economic points, then decide how to use them to support your military plans. The random draw creates uncertainty, while your decisions determine how effectively you respond to the changing conflict.

  • Two-player conflict: Take control of one of two opposing military alliances.
  • Tile placement: Draw tiles from a pouch and deploy them to advance your strategy.
  • Economic points: Your available economy influences the tiles drawn each turn.
  • Attritional combat: Battles are designed to reflect the horrific character of First World War warfare.
  • Dice-driven outcomes: The dice offer no bloodless victories, ensuring that success comes with consequences.

In An Attrition of Souls, strategy is essential. You must plot your moves with care, balancing the opportunities presented by the tiles with the harsh realities of combat. Every decision contributes to the wider fate of Europe, making this a focused war game about pressure, sacrifice, and survival.
