About this expansion

Arena: The Contest – Tanares Adventures is a 2023 expansion for 1–8 players, with an advertised play time of 90 minutes. It adds more than 40 miniatures and 70 different types of villains, expanding the cooperative campaign beyond 100 hours of unique gameplay.

The expansion introduces Commanders and their Companions, creating an eighth Combat Role for both PvP and cooperative matches. With a second miniature on the board, this role brings new tactical and strategic possibilities, including team-building synergies. Capture the Orb, Tournament, and Team Competition modes all gain new depth from these additions.

In the cooperative campaign, players explore a semi-open world rather than following a strictly linear story. Each campaign Cycle is divided into three phases:

• City Phase: Buy items, rest, upgrade City Structures, and pursue sidequests or optional Relic story arcs.
• Journey Phase: Choose a region, read its prelude, study the challenges ahead, assign tasks to helpful Assets, and prepare your equipment.
• Quest Phase: Assemble the board and face villains, random encounters, secret rooms, events, and difficult mission decisions.

Your choices affect the campaign and can change how later Quests unfold. Story Facts influence the challenges you may face, while decisions can alter the circumstances of the multi-part epic finale, determine which Boss or Bosses appear, and lead to multiple endings.
