About this board game

Block Ness is a monster-building placement game for 2–4 players, with play sessions lasting about 20 minutes. Players extend their creatures across the Loch game board while navigating the limited space around rival monsters.

On each turn, choose one monster segment from your reserve and add it to your creature. The new segment must be placed next to either your monster’s head or tail. Afterward, that head or tail piece moves to the far side of the newly placed segment, increasing the creature’s length.

  • Choose a segment from your reserve and place it beside your monster’s head or tail.
  • Move the selected head or tail piece to the far side of the new segment.
  • Cross another monster’s path only when your creature can pass above it.

As the monsters grow, their paths become increasingly constrained. The game board’s size changes depending on the number of players, shaping the available space in each game. You must find legal ways to keep extending your creature while avoiding becoming blocked.

The game ends when all players are blocked or everyone has placed all of their segments. The winner is the player with the fewest segments remaining in their reserve, rewarding efficient growth rather than simply building the longest creature.

If players tie, the winner is the tied player whose monster head has the highest elevation. With its evolving creatures and restricted board space, Block Ness turns every placement into an important decision.
