About this board game
Blöde Kuh is a card game for 3–6 players that takes about 25 minutes to play. Released in 2018, it challenges players to manage a hand of nine cards across three rounds, aiming to finish with the fewest points.
Every card shows one of four different farm animals. On a turn, a player chooses between two options: play one card to the discard pile and trigger the effect associated with that animal, or play two cards of the same animal together.
- Single animal cards activate effects such as drawing a card or having everyone pass a card.
- Playing a pair skips the usual animal effect.
- The next player receives a negative card and places it openly in front of them.
- A negative card moves on whenever someone plays a pair of that animal.
The round ends as soon as a player gets rid of their last card. The two players with the most cards still in hand receive penalty points. They also add the penalty points shown on any negative cards in front of them, making both hand management and the movement of those cards important.
After three rounds, the player with the fewest points wins. Blöde Kuh combines changing card effects, matching pairs, and openly tracked penalties into a compact hand-management game where getting rid of cards is only part of the challenge.
