About this board game

Briefcase is a deck-building and resource management board game for 2–4 players, with an average play time of 60 minutes. Released in 2012, it challenges players to build their own business empires by acquiring and activating companies.

Each player starts with an identical deck of decision cards. As companies are activated, their owners add more decision cards to their decks, expanding the actions available to them. This evolving deck is central to the game, allowing players to develop their business through the companies they bring into play.

Every activated company provides benefits in the form of decision cards and grants a special ability that remains available for the rest of the game. Players therefore build more than a collection of cards: they also assemble a network of companies with lasting effects.

Decision cards present several possible actions, including buying, activating, hiring, and dealing with obstacles. The most important is the buy action, which can be used to purchase either a building or a resource from the market.

  • Deck-building with initially identical player decks
  • Company acquisition and activation
  • Decision cards featuring buy, activate, hire, and obstacle actions
  • Buildings and resources available through the market
  • Special company abilities that last for the rest of the game

In Briefcase, every company activation changes the contents of a player’s deck while adding another lasting ability to their business. The result is a focused combination of deck development, company management, and market purchases for players competing to shape their own business empires.
