About this board game

Dealt! is a 3–5-player card game with play time of about 30 minutes, where players compete to play the strongest combinations while managing a fixed hand, reserve cards, and life tokens.

Each player begins with three life tokens and two reserve cards, placing the reserves face up. Players also receive a hand whose order cannot be changed, creating a challenge where timing and card placement matter from the very beginning.

The start player leads each round by playing up to three adjacent cards from their hand. Available combinations include a single card, a pair, a triple, or a run of two or three consecutive cards. In turn, every other player must beat the combination or choose not to play.

  • A pair can be beaten by a higher pair or by a triple.
  • If you cannot or will not play, pick up one reserve card and place it anywhere in your hand.
  • Once your reserves are gone, passing costs one life token.

After everyone has played or passed, the player who played the highest combination wins the round and leads the next one. The aim is not necessarily to go out first; instead, the key is to avoid being the player who loses all their lives.

If a player must discard a life token but has none remaining, that player loses and everyone else wins. This gives every decision weight, from choosing when to use a reserve to deciding whether a difficult combination is worth challenging.

First released as Krass Kariert (Checkered Combos) and later as Combo Up, Dealt! offers the same core gameplay across its releases. Combo Up also includes four new special action cards, while otherwise remaining identical in gameplay to the original release.
