About this board game
Eggs of Ostrich is a 10-minute game for exactly three players, released in 2012, about claiming ostrich eggs and carefully filling numbered sacks.
Each player begins with four sacks numbered 2, 3, 5, and 7, plus five claim cards: one matching each sack and a skip card. The deck contains egg cards valued from 4 to 10 and amber cards; after two cards are removed, ten rounds determine who collects the most valuable haul.
At the start of every round, the top card is revealed. Players then choose and reveal claim cards simultaneously. Anyone who did not play skip divides the revealed eggs equally among themselves, placing the eggs into the sack that matches the claim card they used.
- Numbered sacks: Each sack can hold only as many eggs as its number before it rips.
- Skip timing: If exactly one player skips when an amber card appears, that player claims the amber.
- Temporary card use: Used claim cards are set aside for the next round before returning to their owners’ hands.
Overfilling is costly: every egg in a sack falls out and breaks, and the matching claim card covers that sack and leaves the player’s game. Amber cards are also valuable, worth 4 points each when scoring.
After ten rounds, players total their points. A sack filled exactly to its number scores that many points, while a sack with fewer eggs scores half the egg count, rounded down. With its simultaneous choices and limited claim cards, Eggs of Ostrich challenges players to judge when to gather eggs, when to skip, and how much capacity to risk.
