About this expansion
Eminent Domain: Bonus Planets is a mini-expansion for 2–4 players that adds nine special planets to the game, with play taking about 45 minutes. Released in 2011, it introduces new possibilities for the Survey role and makes choosing planets a more meaningful strategic decision.
The expansion includes three Prestige planets, each with a different cost and representing an important or famous world. They provide a high amount of Influence, but they do not satisfy research requirements, provide symbols, or contain resource slots.
It also adds six Utopian planets. Every Utopian planet has the same cost and represents an impressive utopia where any type of resource can be produced and any type of technology can be studied.
- Utopian resource slots can store any resource type.
- When producing, you choose which resource type to create.
- During research, a Utopian planet can count as any planet type already in your Empire.
- For each research role, you may count only one Utopian planet in this way.
This flexibility makes Utopian planets useful without removing the importance of your existing worlds. For example, an Empire with one Advanced planet and two Utopian planets can select Advanced technology cards from levels one or two, but not level three. Utopian planets cannot satisfy Metallic or Fertile requirements unless your Empire also contains planets of those types.
With its contrasting Prestige and Utopian worlds, Eminent Domain: Bonus Planets adds an interesting twist to planet selection and encourages new strategic approaches to building your Empire.
