About this board game
Futuropia is a luck-free economic game for 1–4 players, with sessions lasting about 90 minutes. Set in a future utopian society, it challenges you to help build a development where people can work less and enjoy more freedom.
Players strive to create completely self-sustaining homes that function as efficiently as possible. Each development must generate enough food and energy for its residents, reducing the amount of work they need to do and increasing their available leisure time.
In this hopeful society, robots can already do nearly everything, while work is allocated according to ideals of equality, justice, and fairness. The goal is not to keep everyone busy, but to make it possible for as many people as possible to become free from necessary work.
- Develop efficient, self-sustaining homes.
- Provide enough food and energy for residents.
- Maximize freedom by reducing the work people still need to do.
Success means creating the best development. The player who achieves that goal wins, and their development becomes the reality for this imagined future. Leisure can be spent on activities such as fishing, farming, fencing, flying, gaming, building, painting, traveling, and composing.
Multiple setup variations create new challenges and a variety of gameplay situations, supporting replayability. A solo game is also included as a way to learn Futuropia’s mechanisms and processes before playing with others.
