About this board game

Gloria Mundi is a 60-minute board game for 2–6 players set during the fall of Rome, where Roman statesmen struggle to survive cultural decline and political chaos.

Each player begins in Rome and seeks to build a career from the rubble of a doomed Empire. Foreign invaders and domestic incompetents are consuming its remaining resources, while the Visigoth begins on the outskirts of a spiral board and steadily advances toward the Eternal City.

On every turn, you play and purchase cards that produce resources, provide special effects, and help you move farther away from Rome. Your cards represent the resources and opportunities you are trying to develop as you escape the collapsing center of power.

  • Play cards to produce resources and gain special effects.
  • Purchase additional cards to strengthen your position.
  • Move farther out from Rome along the spiral board.
  • Spend precious resources to bribe the Visigoth and protect your cards.

The Visigoth’s progress creates constant pressure. As he moves toward Rome, he destroys your cards unless you pay the resources needed to bribe him. Every decision forces a balance between developing your position, advancing away from danger, and preserving the resources required to survive.

The game ends when the Visigoth reaches Rome or when a player reaches the outskirts of the Empire. In Gloria Mundi, the player who has fled the furthest from Rome wins, turning survival and forward movement into the ultimate measure of success.
