About this board game
GROWL is a 15-minute hidden-role game for 4–10 players in which humans work together to survive while secret wolves try to infect the village.
Everyone claims to be an innocent human, but one or more players are Wolf Zero, the original werewolf. The face-up deck sits in the center of the table. On your turn, draw the top card and give it to any other player, deciding where each bite, wound, or cancelling card will go.
Bites bring humans closer to transformation, while Wounds bring humans and werewolves closer to death. Charms negate Bites, and Salves negate Wounds. Three net Bites turn a human into a werewolf, while three net Wounds kill either a human or a werewolf.
When a Night card appears, the full moon rises and everyone secretly passes cards to their neighbors. This anonymous exchange is how infection spreads: at night, only wolves can pass Bites, giving the hidden pack a chance to turn new allies while humans try to resist.
- Players: 4–10, with up to 15 using more cards
- Play time: approximately 15 minutes
- Core tension: distribute helpful and harmful cards while identifying the wolves
- Key timing: the deck ends after the third night
Once the deck is exhausted, Wolf Zero begins to GROWL. Other wolves slowly join in, including dead wolves. If any humans are still alive, all humans win—even those who have died. If every player who remains alive is growling, all wolves win, including the dead ones. In GROWL, every card passed can change the fate of the village.
