About this board game

Inkling is a creative word game for 3–6 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. Each turn, you place letter cards in front of you and try to help the players next to you understand the words you are conveying.

The twist is that your letters may not always be perfect or immediately recognizable. Instead of relying only on standard arrangements, you can get inventive with the cards and transform a questionable mark into a possible clue.

  • Rotate your letter cards.
  • Play cards upside down or on their side.
  • Overlap cards to change how the letters appear.

The aim is to communicate meaning through visual interpretation. A line might look like a scribble, yet suggest an N or a sideways Z. A circle could be an O, a Q, or part of a B. The players next to you must use these uncertain shapes to glean the words you are trying to convey.

With its blank-page aesthetic and deliberately ambiguous characters, Inkling turns letter recognition into a playful exercise in creativity and perception. Every arrangement offers room for interpretation, and the best way to make your meaning clear is up to you.

Released in 2021, Inkling offers a compact word-game experience for groups of three to six. Whether you rotate, tilt, invert, or layer your cards, the challenge is to create just enough of an inkling for others to see the word behind the marks.
