Lanterns: The Emperor’s Gifts

Lanterns: The Emperor’s Gifts is an expansion for 2–4 players that enhances Lanterns: The Harvest Festival in around 30 minutes. During the festival, players place pavilions among lanterns floating on the lake and earn gifts from the emperor.

Each player begins with a small supply of pavilions. When you place a tile, you may choose to build a pavilion on that tile. Later, when you make a color match on a pavilion, you earn a gift from the emperor, introducing a new currency and fresh opportunities for strategic play.

Two emperor cards are revealed in every game. On a turn, a player may redeem two gifts to activate one of these cards and perform its associated special action. The available abilities can change how you approach the festival and create new ways to use your resources.

• Make an extra dedication at the end of your turn.
• Convert favor tokens into victory points.
• Use other special actions defined by the revealed emperor cards.

These new abilities add variety while preserving the simplicity of the original game. Choosing when to place a pavilion, pursue a color match, collect gifts, or spend them on an emperor card gives each decision added importance.
