About this board game

Liguria is a board game for 3–4 players that takes about 60 minutes, casting players as merchants sailing the Ligurian Sea in search of beautiful and exotic colors.

Players travel between harbors, using trade, conquest, and diplomatic relationships to pursue valuable prestige points. The journey is closely tied to the colorful history of the Ligurian cities, where these discoveries eventually reach the markets and help bring magnificent frescos to life.

A central goal is to collect the special colors found in different harbors and bring them back home. These colors help make each player’s cathedral stand out, while successful dealings with the bishop can provide especially lucrative rewards.

  • Sail across the Ligurian Sea as a merchant.
  • Discover and collect special colors in various harbors.
  • Trade, conquer, and engage in diplomatic relationships.
  • Fulfill contracts with the bishop for valuable benefits.
  • Earn prestige while developing a cathedral distinguished by its colors.

With its focus on maritime discovery, negotiation, and the movement of colors from distant harbors to local cities, Liguria tells the story behind the materials that would later adorn beautiful frescos. It is a standalone game as well as a prequel to the award-winning Fresco.

Whether pursuing prestige, seeking out rare colors, or taking advantage of the bishop’s contracts, players shape their merchant journeys through the Ligurian cities. Liguria offers a concise historical and artistic connection to Fresco while telling its own story of how colors came to the markets.
