About this expansion
Mare Nostrum: Empires – Atlas Expansion is an expansion for 2–6 players with an approximately 120-minute play time, released in 2016. It adds five modules that expand the possibilities of Mare Nostrum – Empires, from a sixth player and a larger map to themed legendary cities and a dedicated two-player scenario.
The Atlante empire introduces a sixth player and increases the map size by 50%. It includes the Atlas starting hero, eight legions, five triremes, five fortresses, seven control markers, five leadership markers, nine resources, a forum mat, a player screen, and five new heroes.
- Troy emphasizes the military aspect of the game.
- Syracuse focuses on the economic aspect.
- Jerusalem introduces a divine aspect.
Each of these three legendary city modules adds six new heroes and wonders, with some including a figurine and counters. They also provide three objectives and 15 events. The Atlante empire and the three legendary city modules can be combined in any way, letting players choose which additions to include.
The final module, the Punic Wars, extends the player count with a scenario for two players. In the Rome-Carthage war, both players control a neutral Barbarian faction, represented by a special set containing three triremes, three fortresses, and eight Barbarian hordes.
With its modular structure, Mare Nostrum: Empires – Atlas Expansion offers multiple ways to broaden the original game, whether you want another empire, new heroes and wonders, distinct thematic emphases, or a focused two-player conflict.
