About this board game

Mists over Carcassonne is a cooperative tile-laying game for 1–5 players, with games lasting about 35 minutes. Working together, players place tiles, score points, and try to survive three increasingly challenging days.

As the game unfolds, ghosts spread across the landscape. Your group must work to stop too many ghosts from remaining loose on the ground while containing haunted ground in cemeteries. Haunted castles also offer a way to turn the game’s supernatural dangers to your advantage.

Every tile placement contributes to the shared challenge. Players need to keep the ghost threat under control while collecting enough points before the tiles run out. If too many ghosts are loose or the group has gathered too few points at the end, everyone loses.

The game includes 60 tiles matching the graphics of the 2021 edition of Carcassonne, along with 45 meeples in two new types. These components support the cooperative experience while remaining visually compatible with that edition.

Mists over Carcassonne also includes rules for incorporating its material into a regular competitive game of Carcassonne. Whether played as a standalone cooperative challenge or used to add its content to a competitive game, it brings a ghost-filled twist to the familiar Carcassonne setting.
