About this board game

Moonshine is a dice-based engine-building game for 2–5 players, with games lasting around 30 minutes. Players develop their own speakeasies while competing to attract enough customers to reach 12 prestige points.

Each round, one player becomes the active player and rolls—and possibly re-rolls—all the dice available to them, creating a validated pool of results. Then, every player uses the resulting icons for their own purposes, making the active player’s dice roll relevant to the entire table.

The icons represent prohibited resources valued by potential customers. Each player has their own group of potential customers, and satisfying a customer’s specific needs brings them into the bar. Customers then provide permanent benefits that can strengthen your engine and expand your future options.

  • Gain prestige points to move closer to victory.
  • Receive additional resource icons for later turns.
  • Gain access to blue and red dice.
  • Unlock raises and discover additional potential customers.

A poor or unwanted dice result does not leave you without options. Instead, you can take a Moon token and place it on one of your cards to unlock a temporary bonus, or replace one of your potential customers with a new one.

Moonshine also includes an asymmetric starting variant. Each speakeasy begins with completely different abilities and temporary bonuses, giving players distinct ways to approach their engine and pursue prestige.

The game ends when a player reaches 12 prestige points. The player with the highest score wins, making every shared roll, customer decision, and bonus an important part of building the most appealing speakeasy.
