About this board game
Neta-Tanka is a worker-placement board game for 1–4 players, with games lasting around 90 minutes. Set among the Frostrivers tribe beside the Great Frozen River, it challenges each clan’s young leader to prove they can provide for the tribe and become the next Neta-Tanka.
Players take turns placing workers on the board, one at a time, until everyone has placed all of theirs. Once placement is complete, players resolve their workers in turn order. Careful planning is essential, because some actions depend on other actions being triggered earlier in the turn.
For example, getting pelts requires the Hunt action to have been triggered beforehand. When an animal is skinned for pelts, its meat becomes available to other players, creating an additional reason to consider both timing and turn order when placing workers.
The board’s action spaces are linked, adding another layer to every placement. Triggering two connected actions provides a boost, such as improving those actions or granting extra resources. A well-planned sequence can therefore make your workers more effective when their actions are resolved.
There are several paths to earning points in Neta-Tanka:
- Building tents for your tribe
- Feeding your tribe
- Handcrafting objects
- Raising the highest Totem for the deities
- Showing generosity to your opponents
At the end of the game, the player with the most points is declared Nētā-Tanka. Balance timing, connected actions, provision, craftsmanship, and generosity as you compete for the Frostrivers’ highest honor.
