About this board game
Nuklear Winter ’68 is a 1–2 player board game set in a devastated 1968, with an approximately 240-minute playing time. Its hostile battlefield is the former German territory, transformed into a wasteland by the nuclear holocaust that ended the Second World War in 1946.
After more than 20 years of nuclear winter, surviving Nazi leaders and Wehrmacht forces emerge from underground shelters, determined to rebuild an empire from the ashes. Their return brings them into conflict with the mysterious Black Hand, elusive masters of the wastes, and the combined strength of the modern, highly mechanized NATO alliance.
Military units represent platoons of vehicles such as T64 and King Tiger tanks, as well as infantry and helicopters. These platoons are grouped into formations led by a commander, creating the organizational structure at the heart of the game.
- Chit-draw activations: formations are activated through a random chit draw.
- Variable activation: better-trained and better-led units may activate more than once during a turn.
- Tactical actions: each activation allows formations to move, shoot, and fight.
- Uncertain momentum: there is no guarantee that a formation will activate even once in a turn.
This balance between military capability and uncertainty makes every activation important. Strong leadership and training can provide repeated opportunities, but the unpredictable draw can leave a formation waiting while events unfold elsewhere on the battlefield.
Originally released as the DTP game Nuklear Winter ’78, Nuklear Winter ’68 presents a bleak alternate-history struggle over the future of mankind.
