About this board game
Pampas Railroads is a board game for 3–6 players, with a playing time of about 120 minutes. Released in 2001, it challenges players to compete for control of six railroads in Argentina across nine rounds.
Each round uses a deck containing three Offer Stock cards, four Develop Settlements cards, and five Construct Track cards. The deck passes to the left, and players take an action until only one action-card type remains.
- Offer Stock: Railroad shares are available for purchase, with only five shares of each railroad in the game.
- Develop Settlements: Players spend their own funds to develop settlements, increasing the income available to a railroad.
- Construct Track: Railroads build along predefined routes, paying construction costs from their treasuries.
Money from stock purchases goes into the corresponding railroad treasury, making those funds important for future track construction. Track is drawn along the predefined routes using plastic crayons, while settlement development affects the income a railroad can provide.
At the end of each round, dividends are paid according to railroad value and the total number of shares. After the ninth round, a final payoff is calculated using railroad value, income, and the actual shares sold.
The winner is the player with the most money after the final payoff. As the fourth game in the Prairie Railroads Series, Pampas Railroads combines share ownership, railroad treasuries, route construction, settlement development, and timed card-driven actions in one extended competition.
