About this board game

Pentaquark is a solo card game for one player that takes about 30 minutes, released in 2016. You are helping science search for an exotic particle by collecting the five quarks that form a pentaquark at the detector of a massive particle collider.

Quarks cannot be found alone, so your task is to bring the required cards to the detector while managing the cards that do not help your search. Each decision affects how many quarks remain available and how many may be scattered or lost.

  • Objective: Collect the five quarks needed to form the pentaquark.
  • Card management: Move needed cards to the detector and discard others.
  • Risk: Discarded cards may return as anti-quarks, while cards removed from the game are gone for good.

The challenge is to minimize the number of quarks scattered and lost as you work toward completing the particle. Discarding cards can help shape your search, but it also changes what may appear later as anti-quarks.

If too many cards are removed from the game, the pentaquark slips through the collider undetected once again. Pentaquark offers a focused solo hunt built around collection, card decisions, and the pressure of keeping enough quarks in play to complete the discovery.
