About this board game
Port Arthur is a two-player naval strategy game about the 1905 Russo-Japanese War, with an approximate playing time of 75 minutes. One player commands Japan, while the other takes the role of Russia in a fast-moving contest for control of the seas.
As Japan, your goal is to land armies amphibiously in Manchuria and challenge the Imperial Russian Navy. As Russia, you must prevent those landings while fighting far from home and waiting for reinforcements to arrive.
Each turn presents difficult decisions as you use naval forces to launch sorties and seek dominance over the naval zones surrounding Japan. Combat rewards careful risk management: the outcome depends on how much danger you are willing to accept, as well as the variable speed and gunnery skills of the ships involved.
- Two-player naval strategy focused on the Russo-Japanese War
- Fast, tense gameplay with meaningful decisions each turn
- Variable ship abilities that shape combat risk and outcomes
- Amphibious landings and naval control as central strategic concerns
Port Arthur is the second game in the Combat Rations series, following 300: Earth & Fire. Like other Combat Rations games, it is quick to play, easy to learn, compact in footprint, and presented with high-quality art and components.
Will Japan send the Russian Baltic Fleet to the bottom of the ocean, as history did, or can Russia avert disaster and win the day? The result is in your hands.
