About this expansion

Roll for the Galaxy: Rivalry is a three-part expansion for 2–5 players, offering approximately 60 minutes of new strategic possibilities in the Roll for the Galaxy universe.

The expansion adds 62 game dice, a new die type, start factions, home worlds, and more than twice as many game tiles for the bag as Ambition. This material is compatible with Ambition, although Ambition is not required to play Rivalry.

Two optional modules—the Deal Game and the Orb Game—can be played separately or combined. They can also be used with Ambition’s goals, giving experienced players more ways to customize their games.

  • Deal Game: Assign dollar dice to a deal board, then trade unwanted assets for useful alternatives. Deals mature over several rounds and may be reversed by you or another player, creating opportunities for profit, disruption, and carefully timed exchanges.
  • Orb Game: Give each player an Alien Orb die whose faces can be upgraded along customizable lines. Researchers provide upgrade dots, while improved faces grant effects such as virtual workers or development discounts.

In the Orb Game, players roll their upgraded dice behind their screens at the start of each round, making their potential advantages visible as everyone chooses assignments and phases. The module extends the game to 15 or more tiles, or until the initial victory point pool is exhausted, with 15 victory points per player in that pool.

At the end, upgraded Orb faces can score additional victory points: each 2-dot face is worth 1 point, and each 4-dot face is worth 2. Replacement player screens summarize the optional modules and the three added dice types, making Rivalry easier to integrate at the table.
