About this board game
Sicily: Triumph and Folly is a two-player operational wargame of the 1943 campaign to capture Sicily, with a listed playing time of 60 minutes. It is the seventh game in The Gamers’ OCS series and covers Operation Husky from the invasion through the fall of Messina.
This edition introduces a 2.5-mile-per-hex scale, the first such scale in the OCS series, and is also the system’s first game covering a major amphibious operation. Each turn represents one-quarter of a week, while land units range from companies and battalions to brigades, regiments, and corps.
The campaign brings together air, ground, and naval units, including aircraft carriers. Both sides have airdrop capability, while invasion and naval supply transport rules add further demands to the operation. Air unit ranges are doubled to reflect raw range within the shorter turn scale.
Players can choose from several shorter scenarios or different campaign start dates based on critical events in the Sicilian campaign. Short scenarios may take a couple of hours, while the larger campaigns can require one to two full weekends to complete, making this one of the most substantial and rules-intensive OCS titles.
- Two 22 × 34-inch full-color maps
- Five dual-sided countersheets with 1,540 half-inch counters
- OCS v2.0i system rules and Sicily-specific rules booklets
- Two OCS charts and tables booklets, plus two six-sided dice
With its compact map scale and broad mix of military operations, Sicily: Triumph and Folly offers a detailed examination of a pivotal World War II campaign.
