About this board game

Souvlaki Wars is a light family card game for 2–4 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. Each player owns a Greek restaurant serving traditional fast food such as souvlaki and gyros, competing to become the most successful restaurant owner.

Players draft new customers and draw food cards at the beginning of each turn. By fulfilling customer orders, they earn the money and reputation represented by those customers. The challenge is serving everyone in time while managing the order line and responding to the problems that can disrupt even the best-run restaurant.

Before customers can be served, every player plays cards from the Unforeseen Events deck. These events can alter the order of the lines, add more customers, reduce an opponent’s reputation, and affect the game in other ways. Players must adapt their plans while watching what their rivals may do next.

Customers are served on a first-come basis. If the order at the front of a line cannot be fulfilled, every customer behind it must wait another turn, making careful food management essential. The first player to reach the required level of both money and reputation wins the game.

  • Draft customers and draw food cards to complete orders.
  • Manage first-come customer lines and delayed orders.
  • Use Unforeseen Events to change the game and hinder opponents.
  • Race to increase both money and reputation.

Published by Greek company Kaissa Chess & Games in 2011, Souvlaki Wars was designed as a bilingual game with text in both Greek and English. It also won the Greek Guild’s first Game Design Contest in the category of Best Game.
