Struggle for the Galactic Empire is a solitaire science-fiction game for one player, with an approximately 240-minute playing time. Released in 2009, it places you in command of a vast human empire spread across thousands of worlds.

Earth has become a distant myth, and humanity has expanded across the galaxy. The empire has endured for millennia, but rebels, usurpers, independent empires, invaders, alien forces, and internal upheaval now threaten its stability.

You make the empire’s military, political, social, and economic decisions. Respond to emerging dangers, keep distant worlds under control, and seek new glory through discovery, colonization, and conquest.

A galaxy map divides the stars into sectors of star systems. Nano-assemblers handle production, creating combat ships, colonization ships, and world-sized weapons. Units also include control groups and leaders, while combat uses two distinct values:

• Weapons destroy opposing forces.
• Morphogenetic systems change opposing forces into friends, allowing loyalties to shift with circumstances.

More than 100 randomly drawn chaos markers generate the empire’s challenges. These can represent rebellions, usurpers, rival empires, invasions, alien forces, and technological, economic, social, political, or military events. You can also launch expeditions in pursuit of knowledge and technology, or use psycho-social warfare and propaganda to repress rebellions.

With 352 die-cut counters, a 34-by-22-inch map, player aids, storage bags, and a rule booklet, Struggle for the Galactic Empire presents a broad solo challenge centered on maintaining control while pushing the boundaries of human expansion.
