About this board game

Swordcrafters is a 1–5 player board game with a playing time of about 30 minutes, released in 2018. Players compete to forge the best replacement for the realm’s broken sword of protection.

Each round begins with a grid of sword tiles. Every player makes one cut in the grid, creating a separation. After the separation phase, each player selects one grouping of sword tiles and assembles those tiles into their sword.

The shared grid changes as players make their cuts and claim groupings. When there are not enough sword tiles to form a new grid, the game ends and the completed swords are scored.

Scoring considers three features of each forged sword:

  • Length: Players hold their swords in the center of the table to score based on length.
  • Quality: This is based on the highest number of adjacent matching gems on one side of the sword.
  • Magic: This is based on the highest sum of two gem types.

These scoring categories give every selected grouping a lasting role in the final sword. The cuts made during the rounds determine which collections of tiles can be assembled, while the finished three-dimensional sword provides the object used for scoring.

With its distinctive sword-building presentation, Swordcrafters turns tile selection into a physical construction challenge. Players do not simply build a flat layout: they assemble and hold their sword as they play, creating an innovative 3D experience centered on length, gem quality, and magic.
