About this board game

Tapeworm is a 30-minute card game for 2–4 players in which you connect colorful worm segments, manage your hand, and race to get rid of all your cards first.

Designed by Edmund McMillen, this easy-to-learn game turns card management into a wriggling contest of intestinal tension. On your turn, draw and lay down matching-color segments, continuing until you attach a head or run out of cards in that color.

Building your worms is only part of the challenge. Special cards can propel your plans forward or interfere with an opponent’s progress, creating opportunities for tactical plays and surprising reversals.

  • Cut: Sever a worm segment in play.
  • Peek: Draw a card and replace it with another card from your hand.
  • Hatch: Force an opponent to draw from the deck.
  • Swap: Look at an opponent’s hand and decide whether cards should be traded.
  • Dig: Draw a card from the deck, then discard one from your hand.

Every turn asks you to balance immediate card placement with the timing of these disruptive abilities. Connecting the right segments can help you shed cards, while a well-chosen action may slow an opponent who is close to victory.

The first player with an empty hand wins. With simple rules, colorful worm-building, and plenty of opportunities to hinder the table, Tapeworm offers a strategic yet accessible experience for the whole family—one likely to leave everyone laughing.
