About this board game

Thrones of Valeria is a 2–6-player trick-taking and rank-manipulation game with an approximately 45-minute play time, ideally enjoyed with 3 or more players.

In the fledgling realm of Valeria, five Great Houses compete to become the wealthiest and most powerful in the kingdom. Players can enjoy individual or team play, while special rules support two-player games.

Unlike traditional trick-taking games, victory is based on the coins gained, not simply on the number of tricks won. Every card has a special power that can influence how the round unfolds, creating opportunities to manipulate the standing of the Great Houses and change the value of success.

The five suits represent Valeria’s Great Houses. Their prestige can swing from celebrated to reviled, affecting whether a House helps players win a small treasure or lose a small fortune. Careful timing, changing ranks, and the consequences of each card make every trick part of a larger struggle for wealth and influence.

  • Trick-taking with scoring based on coins rather than tricks won
  • Rank manipulation and shifting Great House prestige
  • Individual or team play for 2–6 players
  • Standings board, chunky “mahjong-style” House tiles, custom draw bag, and coin tokens
  • Cards designed by The Mico

Designed by Matt Jacobs, Thrones of Valeria brings the intrigue of Valerian nobles to the tavern table. Its distinctive components and evolving House standings give each round a lively tug-of-war as players pursue fortune, power, and the throne.
