About this board game

Timber Tom is a competitive hiking board game for 2–4 players, with a listed play time of 90 minutes and a recommended age of 10 and up. Each hiker must conquer mountain peaks in the treacherous Split River Valley, collect lost gold, and return to Base Camp before the others.

The standard recommendation is to claim the treasures from two mountain peaks to win. Players can also agree before the game to change how many peak treasures are required. If hikers finish in a draw, the winner is the player with the best state of resources.

Progress is shaped not only by your own plans, but also by the obstacles your opponents create. Players can plant forest barriers around the mountains to hinder rival hikers, then use their available tools and transport options to overcome them.

  • Axes and chainsaws can remove forest barriers.
  • Helicopter flights let hikers fly over obstacles.
  • Food supplies must be managed alongside other resources.
  • Unpredictable hazards include flash flooding, quicksand, snowfalls, broken bridges, landslides, and avalanches.

Success depends on using resources at the right time while anticipating the moves of the other hikers. A poorly judged move or a miscalculation can change the result, so planning ahead is essential.

For 3–4 players, the publisher recommends the two-treasure objective as a game lasting around 60 minutes, while the listed playing time is 90 minutes. With its alternate victory conditions and shifting hazards, Timber Tom challenges players to stay prepared from the first step to the final return to Base Camp.
