About this board game

Totensonntag is a two-player historical wargame that recreates the First Battle of Sidi Rezegh during Operation Crusader, with games lasting about 120 minutes.

Set in the Libyan Desert on November 19, 1941, the game places the British Commonwealth’s XXX Corps against Germany’s Panzerarmee Afrika. The British have surprised Erwin Rommel and pushed nearly five hundred tanks behind his lines, creating an opportunity to strike at the Afrika Korps.

This expanded second edition of Peter Bogdasarian’s game uses the award-winning Corps Command system. The system is designed to be easily learned and taught, making Totensonntag suitable for an evening of historical gaming. Choose your side and relive the action, from the opening skirmishes through the fierce clash known as Totensonntag, the Sunday of the Dead.

  • Scale: one turn represents one day, while each hex covers 3 miles or 4.8 kilometers.
  • Units: formations range from battalions to divisions.
  • Complexity: medium-low, with medium-high solitaire suitability.
  • Playing time: approximately 1–3 hours in the official description.

The game includes two full-color 11 × 17.5-inch mapsheets, a double-sided countersheet with 100 counters, an eight-page rules booklet, a double-sided player aid card, and two six-sided dice. The countersheet includes eight blanks.

Totensonntag offers a focused way to explore a crucial moment of the North African campaign, combining an accessible rules framework with a battle fought at battalion-to-division scale.
