About this board game

Typewriter is a 2024 word-building game for 2–5 players that plays in about 30 minutes. Spell words, flip acrylic letter tiles, and build combos as every word changes the puzzle in front of you.

On your turn, spell a word using the tiles available to you. Use all your starting tiles in that word to send one tile to your scoring stack. At the end of each round, take a shiny new tile from the offer, but only after your turn—so you can begin planning your next word while other players play.

The central twist in Typewriter is that every tile used in a word is flipped over. New letters appear on the reverse sides, creating a fresh set of possibilities and challenges after every play. A useful word now may leave you with a completely different puzzle for your next turn.

  • Rechargeable abilities: Some tiles have powerful effects that can be recharged by using a letter in your word to flip them back over.
  • Set collection: Other tiles help you earn points for collecting sets at the end of the game.
  • Bigrams and tough letters: Bigram tiles let you claim common vowels, while difficult letters can score major points.

Designed for portability, the game comes in a small box and includes a zipper bag for storage. Its acrylic tiles are suited to play where a little rain or ocean spray might otherwise be a concern.

With evolving letter combinations, scoring stacks, special abilities, and changing tile faces, Typewriter turns each word into both a score and a decision about what comes next.
