About this board game

Victory Roads: From Bagration to the Fall of Berlin 1944-1945 is a two-player historical simulation of the Eastern Front, covering the campaign from June 22, 1944, through the final victory in Berlin in May 1945. With an estimated play time of 1,440 minutes, it recreates ten months of fierce fighting between Soviet and Axis forces.

The game begins with Operation Bagration, as the Red Army commits more than two million men and 4,000 tanks to liberate Belorussia. Players follow the Soviet advance across 600 kilometres, the collapse of German Army Group Center, the fighting around Warsaw, and the later battles that carry the campaign toward its conclusion.

Using the same core system as Liberty Roads, the game emphasizes the differing structures of the two opposing armies. Axis forces are represented by divisions, while Soviet forces use corps. Supports represent the effects of materiel, equipment, and specific battle events, adding further detail to the campaign’s military operations.

A key feature is the way the Soviet offensive is handled. TO markers represent areas of logistical and administrative support from the Chief Commander of Stavka, while Theaters of Operation markers offer a more challenging mechanism with some similarities to PLUTO markers.

Several scenarios provide different entry points into the system:

  • Budapest-Vienna: a seven-turn introductory scenario covering January to April 1945.
  • Bagration: four turns covering June to August 1944.
  • Bessarabia: seven turns covering July to September 1944.
  • Downfall: nine turns covering January to May 1945.
  • Campaign game: 24 turns with historical or semi-free Soviet setup options.

The 2015 edition includes two double-sided A1 maps, one double-sided A4 map, 924 die-cut counters, rules with designer notes, game aids, two six-sided dice, and a box. Familiar to players of Victory Roads’ Western Front counterpart, it offers a substantial campaign experience for two players.
