War of the Ring: The Card Game – Against the Shadow is a 1–2 player expansion for a 60-minute card game adventure set in the world of The Lord of the Rings. It lets players experience the War of the Ring alone or cooperatively, with the Free Peoples facing an automated Shadow opponent.

Inspired by the award-winning War of the Ring board game, the card game explores a version of the trilogy through uniquely designed decks. These cards represent the strengths and weaknesses of the peoples and characters who fought in the War of the Ring.

In Against the Shadow, the player or players control the Free Peoples, using the normal rules and cards included in the core game. The automated Shadow is controlled through new decks created specifically for solo and cooperative play.

• Solo play: Experience the adventure alone against an automated opponent.
• Cooperative play: Work together with another player while controlling the Free Peoples.
• Shadow decks: New decks entirely replace the core set’s Shadow cards for these modes.
• Flowchart support: A simple flowchart guides the automated player.

Together, the new decks and flowchart provide a sophisticated challenge for one or two players. Against the Shadow offers a focused way to explore the card game’s Middle-earth setting without requiring a human player to control the Shadow.
