About this board game

Wazabi is a dice-and-card game for 2–6 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. Every player has one clear goal: get rid of all your dice.

The challenge is that success makes the game more difficult. As your number of dice decreases, your options become more demanding, creating a central tension between trying to finish and managing the powers still available to you.

Players can use the powers of their dice to affect the game in several ways. These powers may allow you to give a die to another player, draw cards, or play a card.

  • Give a die to another player
  • Draw cards
  • Play a card
  • Use cards to remove dice from the game
  • Use cards to give dice to another player or draw even more cards

The cards add further possibilities to every turn. Some can remove dice from the game, while others can pass dice to another player, draw additional cards, or trigger assorted actions.

Because cards can change how dice are handled, each move contributes to the unusual balance at the heart of Wazabi: having fewer dice brings you closer to your goal, but also makes the game harder. The result is a compact contest built around dice powers, card effects, and the race to empty your supply.

Released in 2008, Wazabi offers a focused experience for groups of 2–6 players. If you enjoy games centered on a simple objective with increasingly difficult conditions, its combination of dice and cards puts that idea at the center of play.
