About this board game

Yokai Sketch is a two-player set-collection game that plays in about 20 minutes, challenging players to complete sketches of supernatural forest spirits and score the most yokai points.

Curious children venture into the forest and draw the yokai they encounter. The game features two decks: yokai cards divided among four elements, and sketch cards showing two of those elements and sometimes a special ability.

• Four yokai elements: water, fire, earth, and wind.
• Strategic card placement: slide a sketch beneath one of the central yokai decks to reveal its associated element.
• Special powers: some sketches can call a yokai or distract it by moving cards.
• Player interaction: compete to have the most sketches on your side when a yokai is completed.

At the beginning of the game, the yokai cards are arranged in four element decks, and each player receives three sketch cards face down. On a turn, draw a sketch card, then slide one of your cards beneath a matching central deck. Count the sketches on both sides of the card. When the required number is reached or exceeded, the player with the larger total claims the yokai and scores its points.

The contest can shift from one yokai to the next. The winner’s sketches are discarded, while the other player’s sketches remain in place for the next card of that type. If both sides are tied, the yokai is frightened: it is lost, and all sketches on both sides are discarded.

Yokai Sketch ends when one or more yokai decks are empty. With its compact play time, elemental card system, and tactical timing, it turns every sketch into a choice between building your own score and disrupting your opponent.
