About this board game
Bolide is a high-simulation car racing game for 2–8 players, with races lasting about 120 minutes. Instead of using cards or dice to move the cars, players control movement through a second-pawn mechanism designed to reproduce acceleration, deceleration, and inertia.
Learning this movement system means learning how to drive around the track. Drivers choose their routes across the squares, set their speed, and compete for the best racing line. Carefully timed overtaking attempts, hard braking, and bold changes of pace can make the difference between leading the race and losing valuable ground.
- Direct movement control based on a second pawn
- Routes shaped by acceleration, deceleration, and inertial movement
- Driving-style decisions involving speed, overtaking, and braking
- Engine and tire preservation for the closing stages of the race
At the advanced level, Bolide adds strategic choices beyond driving skill. Players select the best tires, weigh pit-stop tactics against a longer race strategy, and identify the optimum setup for pushing their car ahead of the competition.
A die introduces a controlled touch of uncertainty for superior performance requests, unforeseen events, and risky situations. These results add unexpected moments without replacing the central skill of choosing and executing each movement.
The game includes multilingual rules in Italian, English, and German. Additional tracks are available through Bolide Tracks #1, featuring Roma in Italy and O Copo in Brazil, and Bolide Tracks #2, featuring Bugeleisenring in Germany and Tsunami in Japan. Bolide was developed from Racetrack and is similar to Tacara.
