Formule Dé

About this board game

Formule Dé is a fast-paced racing game for 2–10 players, with a playing time of about 120 minutes. Players race plastic cars around a circuit while managing gears, movement, and the speed limits imposed by the track’s curves.

Each gear allows a different range of movement, but the exact distance is determined randomly. Players choose which gear to use and must plan their progress carefully, since cars have to end a certain number of turns in each curve. This creates a constant challenge as racers balance speed with the demands of the circuit.

The base game includes components for a large race, making it especially suitable for a big group. Its contents include:

• One d20 die
• Ten plastic cars in blue, red, white, green, and yellow
• Ten matching gear markers
• A circuit set featuring Monaco, Hockenheim, or Silverstone
• Racing sheets and a rulebook

First released by Ludodélire in 1991, Formule Dé began a family of racing games that was later continued by releases from Descartes Editeur in 1997 and Asmodee in 2008. Ludodélire also published 13 additional courses, including circuits in France, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Britain, Spain, Canada, Brazil, Japan, South Africa, and San Marino.

The racing experience can be expanded with Formule Dé: World Championship, while the series was later re-implemented as Formula Dé and Formula D. With its combination of gear selection, random movement, and curve management, Formule Dé offers an engaging tabletop race for a broad field of competitors.
