About this board game

ONUS! Rome Vs Carthage is an ancient war game for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Similar to a miniatures game, it recreates battles from the II Punic War and can also simulate conflicts from the III to I centuries B.C.

Choose Rome or Carthage and command formations represented by unit cards. Infantry units represent roughly 80 to 100 men, cavalry units represent 20 riders, and elephant units represent six elephants. Each unit has traits covering melee combat, ranged attack, defense, morale, life, and movement, along with distinctive skills ranging from defensive formations to powerful attack techniques.

Order and event cards make every game different, while combat remains unpredictable and thrilling. Leadership comes from General tokens representing a headquarters and escort. Generals improve nearby units, strengthen morale, and provide additional benefits in battle, with Hannibal and Scipio each bringing unique bonuses. Heroes, Veterans, and Elite units add further variety.

Each turn follows six phases that organize the action:

• Activate units by playing Order cards.
• Move activated units and resolve charges.
• Make ranged attacks with eligible units.
• Use Skirmisher abilities to harass the enemy.
• Resolve engagements in an order chosen by the active player.
• Move fleeing units after failed Morale checks.

Movement, charges, ranged attacks, special skills, and morale all interact across the battlefield. ONUS! Rome Vs Carthage can be played anywhere, though a gaming area of approximately 100 × 90 cm is recommended for the best experience.
