About this board game
Empires of the Ancient World is a strategy board game for 3–5 players, with games lasting about 180 minutes. Set in the age of Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar, it puts each player in control of an empire’s destiny.
Build armies, annex neutral provinces, trade across the Mediterranean, and fight battles as you expand your influence. The game’s central feature is an innovative card combat system, bringing a wide range of military forces and battlefield capabilities into play.
Full-color cards represent the units and technologies that shape your campaigns. Your forces can include pikes, swords, war bands, elephants, heavy cavalry, foot skirmishers, light horse, siege towers, artillery, and galleys.
- Develop better military leaders, diplomats, traders, and engineers with special cards.
- Use armies to fight battles and annex neutral provinces.
- Trade across the Mediterranean and build the largest trading empire.
Military strength is powerful, but simply gathering the largest army is not enough. The player with the largest army also loses the most victory points, creating a constant need to use forces carefully and avoid letting military size become a liability.
If warfare is not your preferred route, commerce offers another path. In Empires of the Ancient World, victory can come through trade as well as conquest, rewarding players who build the largest trading empire.
