Argonauts

About this board game

Argonauts is a cooperative game for 1–4 players, with a playing time of about 60 minutes, in which legendary heroes sail aboard the Argo to recover the Golden Fleece and return safely to Iolkos.

Jason, prince of Iolkos, accepts an impossible quest from the usurper Pelias to prove that he is worthy of reclaiming his throne. He calls on famous heroes—including Hercules, Orpheus, Kastor, Polydefkis, and Laertes—to join the expedition to the distant city of Kolchis.

Players must work together through a dangerous journey filled with lethal encounters and difficult decisions. Each turn, they choose which characters will face the current encounter, using might or cunning to deal with the threat. However, participating heroes become exhausted and are unavailable for the next encounter, making careful planning essential.

• Acquire the Golden Fleece and bring it back to Iolkos.
• Protect the Argo and preserve enough of her crew to complete the voyage.
• Keep the ship supplied and seaworthy during the journey to and from Kolchis.
• Survive mythical dangers such as Scylla and Charybdis, Harpies, Sirens, Talos, and the dragon guarding the Fleece.

The Argonauts must also contend with merciless pirates and destructive thunderstorms. Just when a plan seems secure, the Gods may take an interest in the expedition, helping the heroes or hindering their progress.

With distinct hero skills, changing threats, and a touch of luck, Argonauts challenges the group to balance immediate survival against the demands of the entire voyage. Only careful cooperation can carry the Argo to Kolchis and safely home again.
